Leadership & People
Leadership and people: capability the strategy can lean on
Leadership and people work addresses whether the organisation can carry the plan: how leaders behave, who is in which role, what performance is measured against, and who is ready for the next one. It is organised in five areas, each scoped and quoted separately.
The five areas
01
Leadership & culture
What leadership asks of people, and what the culture actually rewards day to day.
- Leadership & Culture Development — foundational leadership practice and cultural alignment, built around the behaviours the business needs next
- Culture diagnostic — the gap between the stated values and what gets rewarded, promoted, and tolerated
Deliverable: A leadership practice set and a written culture agenda.
02
Executive coaching
For founders and executives carrying decisions they cannot talk through inside the business.
- Founder & Executive Coaching — sharpening judgement, decision-making, and the leadership behaviour a transformation demands
- Decision support — a structured thinking partner for the decisions that are too early to share with the team and too consequential to make alone
Deliverable: A coaching agreement with a defined focus and review point.
03
Talent & onboarding
Who you need, how you find them, and what happens in their first weeks.
- Recruiting & Talent Strategy — role definition, sourcing approach, and the selection criteria that match the business you are becoming
- Employee Onboarding & Retention — ramp plans that make expectations explicit early, rather than after the first quarter
Deliverable: Role definitions, a hiring approach, and a documented onboarding plan.
04
Organisation design & accountability
Clear titles, clear boundaries, clear expectations — so performance can be managed rather than avoided.
- Organizational Design & Role Mapping — responsibilities and reporting lines written out, removing overlap and the gaps nobody owns
- Accountability & Performance Management — expectations, review cadence, and the consequences of missing them, stated in advance
Deliverable: A role map with responsibilities, and a performance review cadence.
05
Development & succession
Building the bench deliberately rather than discovering the gap when someone leaves.
- Leadership Development & Succession Planning — identifying and preparing the people who will carry the business forward, with a readiness assessment rather than a hope
- Knowledge transfer — where knowledge sits with one person today, and what it takes to make it transferable
Deliverable: A succession map with development actions per role.
How the work is grounded
Leadership work is easy to make abstract. The approach here keeps it observable: what a role is accountable for, what a review measures, who decides, what happens when a commitment is missed, and what a successor would need to be able to do. Those are checkable statements rather than impressions.
When leadership and people work fits
A fit when
- Roles overlap or leave outcomes unowned.
- Performance conversations happen only when something has gone wrong.
- Hiring is urgent and the role definition is vague.
- There is no bench behind a critical role.
- Leaders are being promoted into management without preparation.
Not the right scope when
- You need an HR administration or payroll service — that is outside this scope.
- The business needs an operating or sales leader in seat rather than development work.
- There is an active personnel dispute requiring advice outside this remit.
- You want an engagement survey without any change to role design or reviews.

Scope leadership work
Name the role that is not working
Most leadership scopes start with a specific symptom: an unowned outcome, a stalled hire, or a manager without a cadence. Describe it and we will say which area it belongs to.
Leadership and people: common questions
What does leadership and people work cover?
Five areas: leadership and culture, executive coaching, talent acquisition and onboarding, organisation design and accountability, and development with succession. They are scoped separately, because a business may need one of them rather than all five at once.
Is coaching part of a consulting engagement?
It can be, and it is scoped on its own terms. Coaching is a confidential relationship with a defined focus; consulting produces deliverables the business keeps. Where both appear, they are quoted and agreed separately so the boundary stays clear.
Do you run the recruiting process for us?
The scope defines the role, the criteria, and the approach, and can support the process. It does not replace an internal hiring manager or a search firm, and placement is not promised as part of it.
What does leadership work cost?
A scoped quote, written before work starts, based on the number of roles or teams involved and whether the work includes assessment, coaching, or documentation. No per-session or per-participant rates are published here.
How do you avoid this becoming a personality assessment exercise?
By tying everything to observable work: what a role is accountable for, what a review measures, what a successor has to be able to do. Where an assessment is used, it is one input into a decision with stated criteria, not the criterion itself.
